War of the Worlds

Well, the first time I experienced the attack of HG Wells's aliens was as a five or six year old, when I nicked mum's copy of the book on tape. I listened to it over and over, knowing that when I stopped listening, I'd freak out. And freak out I did! I didn't sleep properly for about a month, and followed poor mum about the house during that time, terrified that I was going to be zapped by aliens. Anyway, I went to see the new, updated version yesterday. The visual and sound effects were awesome, but the characters themselves, who were meant to be driving the film, were not particularly interesting characters. There just wasn't anything that particularly excited me. Maybe I'm too desensitised, but I don't think so. Usually movies like this still scare me. This one didn't. 3 Stars.
